My lash essentials

I have some items that I have come to love as I look for dependable items with which to apply my lashes and the lashes I choose to wear. Its really great to know that there are soooo many great lash brands out there catering to almost every look you wish to achieve. Whether its a dramatic sharp look or simple everyday wear your bound to find something that meets your needs.

Beauty products should be all inclusive regardless of your skin colour, eye shape, eye lash length its possible to now find something that suits you.

Personally I prefer strip lashes to individuals for the simple reason that I find these much quicker and easier to apply, and as you all know I’m all for make-up that cuts down the getting ready time.

So the pic I uploaded shows a pair tweezers with good grip that I picked up from Boots and the eyelash glue by Eylure also from Boots. What I like about this eyelash glue is how little you need and how long it lasts for . I wear lashes everyday and one bottle can take me for about 4 months plus it lasts all day! Its not harsh on the skin and is tough enough to keep your lashes in place even in high winds lol.

As for lash styles when it comes to daily wear I prefer to go for what gives the most natural look and the wispy style I believe helps me achieve that best. Of course I opt for something a little more daring for special occasions but for everyday glam Ardell lashes and Natural Lash are my current favourites and these I pick up from any good hair and beauty store.

Whats your go-to lash brand for everyday wear?

Have a wonderful day x

Clean me!

I have to say that cleaning my make-up brushes has become a boring and rather laborious task. I like having clean brushes but would rather they had their own sort of washing machine that I could put them in! lol, first world problems ayy!

But then I discovered this cleaning glove which has made the cleaning process so quick and easy. The different grooves helps me to clean and rinse all of my brushes with ease. Whether it’s an angles eyebrow brush or a big fluffy powder brush I can wash them all till they are squeaky clean using this glove.

I bought it on Amazon (UK) for under ten pounds and is one of the best cleaning tools I have used. Its silicone and has an inner glove which is made of a cotton like material that allows you to keep your grip. The different sections on the glove are labelled so you know which area to use to wash the brush, rinse and remove excess water.

My preference is to use an ordinary shower gel and warm water when cleaning my brushes as I find these to be just as effective as the make-up removers. I also wash my brushes regularly because my face doesn’t like dirty brushes and will quickly let me know in the form of spots when my brushes aren’t clean.

Let me know what tools you use to clean your make-up brushes.

Have a lovely evening x

Make-up products and beauty tools you didn’t know you didn’t need

Let’s face it, its great that we have soooo much choice when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, brushes, foundations, you name it. But there are some products you can definitely go without. Here are just a few:

Lower lash mascara – I’m fairly confident that the mascara you use on the upper lash will be just as effective when used on the lower lash. If you want to catch all the super small lashes, try a comb mascara as opposed to a brush mascara to coat those little lashes. A comb mascara will also beautifully coat and separate all of your longer lashes too.

A cream for your neck – Whatever face cream you choose to use will be just as effective on your neck. Our necks should actually be treated the same as the skin on our face because its just as delicate and deserves the same level of care and attention.

Aftershave balms – If you shave your legs and underarms opt for coconut oil or a vitamin e oil instead to protect and hydrate your skin after shaving.

Translucent Powders – I always thought I really needed this because I have oily skin but if you are using the right facial wash, creams and primers you’ll find that you wont need to use lots of powders and can achieve the finished look that you desire. However, if you are going to have an extremely long day and will be taking lots of pictures then you may want to carry the powder around with you incase your skin gets oily but it probably wont be needed for a normal day at uni/work.

Lip primer – If you would like longer lasting lipsticks then you can use the primer that you use on your eyelid on your lip too, its just as effective.

Hope you’ve found this useful!

Have a great day! x

Relaxed hair care

The way we care for our hair has changed in recent the years. Over the last decade more and more women are caring for their hair using a diverse number of products. Wearing wigs of different colours and lengths allows all women to experiment with new looks switching from diva to princess in seconds! Our hair says something about us and whether you are daring with yours or not, the way we care for our hair does matter.

I have relaxed hair and I enjoy maintaining it but I’ve noticed that different processes produce different results, I’ll explain…when relaxing your hair how long it is conditioned for and the method used to dry it affects the finish and the texture. For example, after relaxing the hair if you choose to use a wrap mousse and then blow dry your hair the finished look is likely to be lighter, more silky and straighter with less body if you use a  dryer and comb. Setting your hair without heat can leave some kinks but also give more volume. Choosing to dry the hair after relaxing using a volumising mousse or setting rollers will give the hair far more volume, body and bounce as opposed to simply curling or straightening the hair.

Knowing your hair and the type of hair that you have is important to treating it correctly. Take time to look at how your hair reacts to different products and how different hairstyles affect your hair too. Some people have hair that grows when in plaits or when in a weave, others have identified the opposite effect.

Its also important to take note of the different textures of hair that are on your head. There are parts of the hair such as the hairline especially that can be fine and delicate, breaking easily when brushed too excessively. Some also have thinner hair at the crown of their heads. Take note of these and ensure that the hairstyles you choose to wear will benefit your hair in the long term.

Nutrition also plays a part in the care of our hair, look after your relaxed hair by drinking water and eating a healthy diet to ensure that your new growth is healthy and strong.

A regular trim of the ends of your hair does wonders for relaxed hair. Keep your tresses pretty and strong by having your hair dresser trim your ends often. Don’t be afraid of loosing length by trimming your hair, those little snips actually promote hair growth and can make hair healthier and longer.

If you don’t have time for your relaxed hair in the mornings try treatments that work on your hair during the night. A lot of brands have creams and moisturizers that get to work while you sleep. Shop around to find one that works best for you…Mizani have a product thats great and is only applied twice a week.

I hope this has been helpful.

Have a great week! x

Not forgotten

Its been an entire 14 days since I last posted on here and I must say that I’ve really missed it. Things have been a little busy but I’m throughly looking forward to sharing some more beauty and fashion posts with you all really soon xx

My top 4 products for

When I first realised that I had an oily t-zone I tried lots of different methods to keep my skin shine free throughout the day. I later learnt that having a good skin care routine before applying my makeup was just as important as the foundation I wore and any blotting powder or paper that I could buy. Although this may sound obvious fried and oily foods doesn’t help oily skin and regular exercise can also help keep your oily skin at bay. Do some research into the foods that can help and see how you can adjust your diet to help.

So aside from the things you can do on the inside here are the primers that I like to use that keep my skin shine free:

I used the No. 7 primer for a few years and I really liked it. With a pearly cream texture its easy to work into the skin with your fingers. For me it doesn’t quite last all day and I did find my oily skin breaking through after about 6 hours. You can purchase this from Boots

BOOT-NO7
No. 7 Beautifully Matte Primer
MAC’s prep + prime spray is the primer and finisher i’m currently using because i like the finish it gives my make up. I don’t use pressed powders on top of my foundation/concealer so I like the dewy finish that this gives me yet still manages to keep my oily skin at bay. Available at MAC

MAC Prep +Prime Spray
Kiko’s mat base really surprised me because I wasn’t expecting it to be as effective as it was. My reservation about it is that it dries incredibly hard and even when I use just a little it feels really harsh on my skin. I tend not to use it so much now but I know i can really on it for really long days when I just have to stay shine free. Note that with this primer your application must be smooth as it can affect the finish of your foundation. Available here Kiko

This is one of my cheap favourites, Rimmel’s primer feels just like applying a cool moisturiser to your face. Although its hold on oil doesn’t last all day it is effective for between 4-5 hours. This primer does well not to suck all moisture from your skin and is so smooth to apply meaning that your foundation will look flawless too. Available at Boots

I hope this helps you. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried any of these primers or you have some to recommend that have worked well for you.

Have a great week!

Where to shop – tips

When it comes to shopping on the UK high street compared with other countries I’d say we are pretty spoilt for choice. Whether you like to stay on trend with the latest looks or are looking for something a little quirky or different you’ll be sure to find something you love and within your budget. We are at a time in fashion where you can look great for less with some of our most loved brands creating stunning pieces at great prices.

Having lived in London for many years there were certain brands that I could bank on to find a gem for an occasion or to simply freshen up my wardrobe. Now with internet shopping being so conveniently at our finger-tips, finding what you need online saves the trip to multiple shops and trying on item after item. Personally, I prefer trying on what I buy and saving myself the annoyance of having an item delivered and finding the fit isn’t right (especially if I’m pressed for time). I also like feeling the material, looking at the finishing and judging the quality before making a purchase.

If like me you don’t mind shopping in stores then sample sales are a great way to find good quality clothing at a great price. I follow ldnfashion.com who always has the latest sample sales on their site. They often share sample sale dates and location for brands such as Reiss, Temperley and Mulberry but to name a few! So do check it out.

Speaking of Reiss, they also have an outlet website where you can find items for both men and women at a discounted cost, you can access the site here.

For special occasion wear Karen Millen has an outlet site where you can find wedding guest ready dresses too.

If you’re looking for boutique brands as well as some more established names such as Diane von Furstenburg then check out coggles.com  they have a great selection of men and women’s designer fashion plus homeware all at reduced prices.

Lastly all over the UK you can find entire outlet shopping centres that have many of the well known brands covering sportswear, beauty, women’s fashion and more including London Designer Outlet Wembley, Freeport Braintree in Essex and Bicester Village in Oxford. There are many more around the UK and Europe, you can find the full list of them here.

I hope you find this helpful!

Me time

My time in the train gives me space between work and home to reflect, plan and sometimes just leave work behind for the day and think about the evening ahead.

I’ve always valued having (at some point in the day) some time to reflect. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to also look through my diary and jot down some actions for the week/month. This organisation helps me to always allocate my time strategically instead of rushing around when I remember last minute that there are 5 things that need to be done in an hour! I’ve written a blog post about organising your time in a previous post so do check it out.

Having a little me time here and there also allows for some self evaluation, asking ourselves questions like: how have I been using my time lately? How productive am I being in my personal time to reach some of my own goals? Am I balancing my work schedule and making time for my friends and family? Am I too busy?

Life can often move at full speed and it’s only when we intentionally take time out to stop, step back and look at the bigger picture will we gain a healthier perspective on where we are and where we’d like to be.

If you’d like to more reasons why ‘me time’ is good for you, check out this link.

Have a great remainder of the week 🙂 x
