Skincare and self care

I’ve never really had a strict skincare regime but have always followed the basic rules of cleansing, toning and moisturising my skin twice a day. Now that I’m a mum looking after my skin is still important and I really want to give it my best.

In January I got some Wildseed Botanicals skin care products and I have to say that they are the best products I’ve used on my skin in a long long time. I’ve tried both high end and high street brands and I can honestly say the results from these have been impressive. I’ll take you through what I got and how I use it.

Pink Grapefruit Energising Body Polish

I find this product so luxurious and it has become a staple product that I use without fail every week. Once I’ve showered I smother this all over my skin and rinse away. I then pay away any excess water and I’m done! There’s no need to moisturise my body after that. It leaves my skin with an undeniable glow that lasts all day. My skin just feels so nourished, silky and soft. It really gives you a glow that isn’t greasy looking but just looks healthy and well looked after, I love this stuff!

Green Smoothie Vitamin and Mineral Rich Clay Mask

I use a spatula to scoop a little of this into the palm of my hand and add a little water and mix into a paste. Using my fingers I glide the clay mask all over my face, giving full coverage and avoiding the eye area. I leave it on to harden then remove with a warm soft cloth. I saw results after just one use of this mask. It’s pretty much the most revitalising mask I’ve used. I have used other clay masks that just draw out all the goodness from your skin and leave your skin super dry but this left my skin looking bright and cleansed. It really gave me a deep clean. I also use this product once a week.

Asase Aba Radiance Body Oil

I mix this oil with my moisturising lotion and apply daily to give my body that soft glow. It’s also great for this season when the air is still a bit dry, keeping my skin nice and hydrated throughout the day. This oil isn’t heavy. It’s beautifully light. What I love about all these products is they are all full of ingredients that are good for your skin and they are all natural! You can find a full list of the ingredients and some of the benefits on the Wildseed Botanicals website.

Rānā Regenerative Facial Serum

I’ve saved my favourite product in my collection till last. I’ve been using this day and night for almost 2 months now and I have noticed a real change in my skin. A little of this product does go a long way, so once I’ve cleansed, toned and moisturised I just place 3-4 drops in the palm of my hand, spread and gently press it into my skin ensuring full coverage. I just love the way it makes my skin feel, I feel like I’m feeding it good food haha! My skin has become clearer and feels really moisturised.

These products have really helped me to care for my skin in the way that I should and makes my ‘me time’ just that bit more special. I can’t recommend these products enough. There are others in the range so please do check them out too. You can check out the website here I am really enjoying using these products and just had to wrote a blog post and share.

Why are we getting our own day?

One of the questions that popped into my mind today with it being Women’s Day is, when is Men’s Day. Why isn’t there a day that celebrates the opposite sex. I mean for all the obvious reasons women are pretty awesome beings 😀 lol, but its deeper than that. When we look back through history and even in the modern day and note all of the inequality, hardships, injustice that women have gone and go through daily its rightly so that a day is dedicated to recognising how strong, resilient, persistant and powerful we really are.

Although it will take more than setting aside a day of recognition to truly recognise and take strides toward making life for women in the workplace and in society that little bit fairer, maybe its a step in the right direction. Maybe recognising women, what we do, how we do it etc. creates a day of reflection in some way. Maybe it doesn’t. Maybe its just there to keep us sweet (slightly pessimistic I know).

Things have improved for women but there is a long way to go to truly create a world where women are truly recognised for all that we do. That time I believe is coming and days like this are a reminder of that.

So today women lets keep encouraging, supporting and empowering each other.

Happy International Women’s Day!!!

Dubai

For my birthday (in January) my husband and I went to Dubai and I thoroughly enjoyed 7 days of basking in the sunshine, eating delicious food and spending some time with my husband before the busyness of the year began.

Here are a few pictures from our trip:

Beauty has a new boss

Hello all! 🙂 Its been a while, as the nights draw in faster than we can get to used to at least we now have a very good reason to bring out and revive our winter wardrobes as the temperatures whittle down.

Recently I’ve seen so many encouraging posts from women who were once reluctant to really express who they were and felt increased pressures to conform to the industry standard of beauty (which often than not is unattainable for the average joe/joanne) leaving many feeling deflated and left out but are now feeling confident to express who they really are and live it out unapologetically.

But what I can only describe as a ‘revolution’ seems to have swept over almost everyone bringing us into a space of being able to share who we are and the things we love unreservedly on social media.

It doesn’t matter your skin tone, religion, face shape, contour style, we are now realising that there is a space for everyone in the beauty world. Brands no longer (to an extent) dictate to us how products should be used and what they should look like when worn but many have now taken this into their own hands.

This really is so refreshing to see and long may the ‘revolution’ continue! The standard of beauty seems to now be more firmly in the hands of the people it should have been in all along- ours 🙂

Sublime Prime(r)

As you’ll know from my previous post I recently went to Paris and had the opportunity to visit one of the Sephora stores there. I was really impressed with the wide range of brands that they had, the layout and the overall vibe in there. Having recently stocked the Fenty Beauty range the store was heaving with people ready to purchase the newest and coolest make-up range to hit the shops. Apart from bagging myself one of Rihanna’s new make-up products I also invested in the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

urban decay eyeshadow primer potion

I’ve come to know and trust Urban Decay’s products over the years so was silently confident that this primer wouldn’t disappoint. When I first felt the product on my finger tips I found it to feel quite thin and silky and had a doubt as to whether it could handle not only my hooded but also sometimes oily eyelids. In my experience I’ve also found that there are some eyeshadow primers that only work well with shimmery or glittery eyeshadows as they adhere better but are a let down when matte eyeshadows are in the picture. This isn’t the case with this, it has a small wand brush that makes it super easy to apply on your lid and you need very little. I smooth it out with a concealer brush and give it a few seconds to set then begin applying my eyeshadow. The primer keeps my eyeshadow put all day and it doesn’t matter if its a cheap eyeshadow or one of the more upmarket ones, the results are the same.

I wanted to use this a few times before reviewing it just to be sure that I really do like it and that it actually works and I’m pleased to say it does. I should also add that the beige colour of the primer works very well on dark skin tones too as I know the other Urban Decay primer is lighter and can as a result make your eyeshadows look lighter and brighter than intended.

Overall, I’m pleased with this product and would buy it again. Hope you’ve enjoyed my review, please do let me know your thoughts, comment below or drop me an email at fuschiasequins@gmail.com

Have a lovely evening x

Match?

So Rihanna has launched her make-up range and we are absolutely loving it. The range of colours and the variety of products has got everyone super excited and I must admit I cant wait to try it out for myself.

Fenty Beauty Foundation

But when shopping for a new beauty product what are some of the things that you look out for that tell you whether its going to be a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. Apart from testing a product on the back of your hand and possibly trying it on how can you be sure that what you are getting is worth parting with your precious pounds?

It can be a game of trial and error with lots of artificial lighting at cosmetic booths and the lure of all these beautiful shades that feel right when you’re in the store. I’d say don’t rush it but rather ask for a sample (especially foundation and concealer) and test it at home or pop out of the store and take a look in the day light. By doing this you’ll quickly be able to spot if a colour is ashy for your skin or if the undertone is right for you.

From experience I’ve found that some of the foundation brands develop the darker shades of foundation with a very red/orange undertone that can be rather unflattering in daylight but looks great under artificial light, so do watch out for this.

For eyeliners a test on the back of your hand is sufficient. A good eyeliner shouldn’t run when you draw a line on the back of your hand. Also wait for it to dry on your hand to see what the finished product will look like – is it really black or more of a dull grey?

The same can be said of primers too, put a little on the back of your hand and rub in gently. Once dry, asses how it feels, is it too drying? Too glossy? Decide the make-up look you’d like to go for whether is matte or dewy and buy accordingly.

I hope this helps you when make-up shopping. If you have any questions please do feel free to ask in the comments section or via email fuschiasequins@gmail.com.

Good light

One of the most important parts of make-up application is ensuring that you are applying it in the right light. More often than not we find the most suitable place in our bedrooms where all of our make-up items fit and make the best of it. So which is best, natural light or artificial light?

If you’re going out during the day or to the office for example its best to do your make-up in natural light. This means facing a window where you have a good amount of light coming in and can really see the texture of the make-up on your skin. The reason why its best to do your make-up in this light is because when in the natural light you’ll be able to spot easily if you’ve applied too much foundation, if a shade is too ashy or too red/dark and if your highlight or glitter is too much. Hold a handheld mirror directly in front of your face in natural light and you’ll be able to apply and blend your make-up better. Fluorescent lights/artificial light don’t usually show colour and texture well and offer a dimmer/duller light that doesn’t show any discrepancies- until you take a picture with a flash that is!

When applying make-up and its dark outside there are lighting options that you can use such as bright white lights which are readily available in most shops and online. There are now smaller mirrors that you can buy that have a light around them, such as this one from Amazon, and its just £15. For my readers in the USA, you can also get this rather cute LED mirror from here. This is better than relying on the lighting in your bathroom, because those bulbs sometimes have a yellow hue which can make your make-up look dull giving you the illusion that more make-up needs to be applied.

To conclude, the answer is that it depends on the time of day but natural light is best and free! When applying make-up during the day and its bright outside then natural light is best. If you’re applying make-up at night use a good artificial bright white light than shines directly in your face and not at an angle. The best way is to get a mirror that has lights around it.

If you have tried these methods and still think your make-up isn’t quite looking right them its time to look into some other factors such as the tools you’re using to apply you’re make-up, your technique, your primer and lastly but most importantly the products your using.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post and as always if you have any questions please let me know.

Have a lovely weekend x
