Skincare and self care

I never knew these two went hand in hand until I started taking my skincare regime seriously somewhere around November 2019. Not only have I noticed a difference in my skin but it’s time I carve out for myself and do something for me. Which as a stay at home mum is important to have.

Prior to this I’ll be honest that I have used whatever cleanser I’ve had available including bar soap which isn’t really recommended for the skin on your face. Having a good skincare regime some day will save you money in the long run. Having a regime now could prevent deep wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and keeps skin healthy and moist.

Before starting my regime I did some research into what I wanted for my skin, what I wanted to achieve and did an assessment of the type of skin I have, which is combination oily but has changed a bit during pregnancy.

Getting good products is key but so is being consistent with your routine. I’ve seen a difference in my skin because I’ve been committed as much as possible to cleansing, toning and moisturising even when I’m at my most tired (which can sometimes take a bit of motivation!)

Here are the products that I use:

I start with this Caudalie cleansing oil which gets rid of the tougher make-up like gel liners and mascara plus oil based make-up like foundation and concealers. After this I use Simple moisturising facial wash for an even deeper cleanse.
I then follow with a cleanser on my face and neck, I have a few but this one is my favourite to use at the moment from Clarins.
This toner is great, it’s so gentle on the skin and I’m loving the results. Again I use this on my face and neck.
This serum is great and I use it during the day if I’m not wearing makeup and every evening after my toner. It’s got such a lovely smell and a few drops goes a long way.
I finish off with a gel moisturiser in the evenings. I prefer using a gel moisturiser because of how quickly they absorb into the skin.

I haven’t perfected this regime yet as I do need to add a daily moisturiser that contains an SPF so would love to know your recommendations. What other kind of products do you use on your skin?

With all that’s going on at the moment please do make the most of the time you have with family and check on your friends and relatives too. Have a great week! Xx

My top 4 products for

When I first realised that I had an oily t-zone I tried lots of different methods to keep my skin shine free throughout the day. I later learnt that having a good skin care routine before applying my makeup was just as important as the foundation I wore and any blotting powder or paper that I could buy. Although this may sound obvious fried and oily foods doesn’t help oily skin and regular exercise can also help keep your oily skin at bay. Do some research into the foods that can help and see how you can adjust your diet to help.

So aside from the things you can do on the inside here are the primers that I like to use that keep my skin shine free:

I used the No. 7 primer for a few years and I really liked it. With a pearly cream texture its easy to work into the skin with your fingers. For me it doesn’t quite last all day and I did find my oily skin breaking through after about 6 hours. You can purchase this from Boots

MAC’s prep + prime spray is the primer and finisher i’m currently using because i like the finish it gives my make up. I don’t use pressed powders on top of my foundation/concealer so I like the dewy finish that this gives me yet still manages to keep my oily skin at bay. Available at MAC

Kiko’s mat base really surprised me because I wasn’t expecting it to be as effective as it was. My reservation about it is that it dries incredibly hard and even when I use just a little it feels really harsh on my skin. I tend not to use it so much now but I know i can really on it for really long days when I just have to stay shine free. Note that with this primer your application must be smooth as it can affect the finish of your foundation. Available here Kiko

This is one of my cheap favourites, Rimmel’s primer feels just like applying a cool moisturiser to your face. Although its hold on oil doesn’t last all day it is effective for between 4-5 hours. This primer does well not to suck all moisture from your skin and is so smooth to apply meaning that your foundation will look flawless too. Available at Boots

I hope this helps you. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried any of these primers or you have some to recommend that have worked well for you.

Have a great week!

My 4 make-up essentials

Okay so these are my favourite products in my make-up collection at the moment 🙂

1. No.7 Beautifully Matte Make-Up Base- I love using this primer, it gives a great base for applying my foundation and stops shine. I use it on my oily t-zone which is my forehead, nose and chin. I use it quite sparingly as I feel it’s more effective that way. You can purchase one from any big boots

2. Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Liner- I have tried sooo many different eye liners in search of that perfect shade of black. There are some that dry matte and look almost grey and there are some that dry with a slight sheen. This Rimmel liquid eyeliner has such a beautiful finish. It drys very matte and is extremely dark. I like using this eyeliner when I’m teaming it with a dark or a red lippy. It has a short nib which makes it easier to apply if you’re an eyeliner beginner. You can purchase this from Superdrug or Boots.

3. Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer- this is a new find for me but this keeps my eyeshadow in place alllll day and the great thing is it also works as a lovely eyeshadow colour on its own too. You only need to apply a very small amount before you put on your eyeshadow. What I like to do is use my fourth finger to gently rub the primer across my entire eye lid until there’s an even spread but you can also use a small concealer brush.

4. MAC MatchMaster Foundation- Last but not least is MAC’s MatchMaster foundation. I really like the finish that this liquid foundation gives me. I’ll admit I don’t think it’s the absolute perfect match for my tone but it’s the closest one I’ve found so far. I don’t wear this on its own though, I add a little Select Sheer Pressed Powder on top to give me an even smoother finish. You can purchase this from all MAC stores or online.

Have a lovely weekend (despite the rain)!
